ASMTP Application Assistance: Employer Matching Assessment And Application Preparation
The Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP), and the General Employment Policy (GEPS) for non-mainland applicants, both require a confirmed Hong Kong job offer. Huanchen assesses role-to-qualification fit and organises documents on both the employer and employee sides.
Scheme framework and core prerequisites
Employment-based visas are assessed around a genuine role, a genuine employer and a market-level package.
- Who applies: mainland residents under ASMTP; other nationals under GEPS, with the same assessment logic
- Core prerequisite: a confirmed offer from a Hong Kong employer, with the role matching the applicant’s education or experience
- Remuneration must be at market level, and the employer must support the application with business registration, financial and operational evidence
- Entrepreneurs establishing or joining a business in Hong Kong may apply on a self-employment basis, with genuine operations and role necessity to be shown
- The visa is tied to the employment relationship; changing employers requires a fresh application
What to know before applying
An employment visa application combines employer-side and employee-side documents; weakness on either side slows the case.
- The job description must be specific enough to show why the role cannot readily be filled locally and why this applicant is needed
- The applicant’s education, professional qualifications and work history must correspond to the role; large gaps call for extra explanation
- Remuneration should follow market levels — visibly low pay is a common cause of further-document requests and refusals
- Employer documents: BR certificate, latest audited or financial statements, proof of business activity and a note on the workforce
- Newly established or small employers must additionally evidence genuine operations and the necessity of the hire
- The application may include a spouse and unmarried dependent children under 18

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply without a Hong Kong employer?
No — this route requires a genuine offer. Applicants without one should consider QMAS or TTPS; those already running a business in Hong Kong may apply on a self-employment basis with evidence of genuine operations.
What if I change jobs after approval?
The visa is tied to the employer. A new application supported by the new employer is required before starting the new role, and it should be handled promptly after leaving to avoid a gap in permission to stay.
How long does processing take?
For complete general employment applications, the Immigration Department typically processes within about four weeks of receiving all documents; cases needing further documents take longer. Complete documents on both sides are the key.
